The Commons
1973

Gruen Associates Inc. with Cesar Pelli Architect

Columbus, Indiana

About the building:

The Commons is a major interior mall space constructed in downtown Columbus, Indiana in 1973. It includes shopping, theatres, a children's play space and some pieces of public sculpture. more info

The building was largely demolished as of 2008. Apparently the steel super structure, and sculpture "Chaos" will remain in the new building.

The main space in the mall is a large public gathering space adjacent to the street edge.

Sculptural elements are hung from the ceiling of the public space.
