Post Office
1970

Roche Dinkeloo and Associates

Columbus, Indiana

About the building:

The Post Office building in Columbus, Indiana was designed by the office of Roche Dinkeloo and Associates in 1970. This 30 year old building is not faring well from the point of deterioration. The exposed steel is Corten Steel, and much of the exterior of the building is in a serious state of deterioration. Rumours are that the building will have to be replaced in the not so distant future.

Arcade in front of building.
Masonry covered columns with Corten Steel beams at the head.

Atrium space between arcade and building proper.
The reflective glazing is set in Corten steel frames.

View of exterior.
The interior of the building is quite simple. Exposed steel beams sit on concrete block columns/walls with exposed steel decking. Surprisingly for a federal facility of this sort, the building does not appear to be sprinklered...
