About the building:

The SFMOMA is Mario Botta's first building in the United States (c. 1994). It is directly adjacent to Yerba Buena Gardens in the arts district of San Francisco.

The brick cladding used a prefabricated panel system that provided for much quality control for the very intricate masonry detailing.

Although the skylights were equipped with a multi layer screening device on the inside to prevent UV from reaching the gallery below, some were also fitted with custom covers to ensure a complete blackout of the spaces below.
