THE TRUMAN SHOW

The manipulation of space produces an incredible sense of the uncanny in The Truman Show, when Truman's reality is unveiled to be a complete construction as part of a "reality TV show". The notion of "reality TV" is uncanny as is, since a strange hybrid of real people (reality) and television direction (manipulated reality) is combined to create a form of entertainment that is closer to reality. This is taken to the extreme in The Truman Show where Truman's entire life is a construct. The scale of space and the conception of such a realistic artificial environment are incredibly effective alone in depicted an uncanny manipulation of reality. This is further amplified by the notion of the film, which extends Truman's space of his private life out publicly to millions of viewers.
