A SCANNER DARKLY

A Scanner Darkly explores the notion of disrupted and fractioned time by providing flashbacks from a dilapidated house to Bob Arctor's drastically different happy suburban home. This flash in time generates an extreme discomfort of the present in comparison to the past and effectively communicates the state of the characters at present compared to the past. Though drugs and 'suits' exist in this movie that are unheard of at present day, the possibility for these inventions to somehow materials produces an uncanny reality to the film. A future of fear, paranoia and danger is cast by this manipulation of time.
