Man’s Creation of the Superbeing in Film:  Metropolis 2001
In Osamu Tezuka’s Metropolis 2001, the film is centered on the supreme being, Tima.  Discovered alone in the aftermath of a fire, she is thoroughly confused of her origins.  Her human-likeness is far superior to any other created robot; her physicality inspired from the deceased daughter of the powerful Duke Red.  Created with human organs, she has the capacity to have real human emotions and memories, but she is also programmed with the power to pierce into the core of the mechanic realm – the Ziggurat – to conquer both human and robotic worlds.  Tima is not only the supreme robot, she is also the supreme human.
The image in which Tima has been created, falls into the uncanny valley.  She possesses all human traits, and she possesses more - but she is not quite human.  She lacks the history, language, and knowledge which we all grow to learn from childhood to adulthood.  As the story progresses, a love interest sparks between Tima and her friend, Kenichi.  The line between human and robot is almost no longer existent through this relationship; Kenichi feels for Tima, regardless of what she is, and her emotions grow for Kenichi.  At many points in the film, we forget that Tima is not truly human, only to recall through her lack of finesse.

" Kenichi! Who ... am ... I? "

Tima, like Leeloo from the film Fifth Element, has been constructed for the purposes of being a savior of the world.  In Tima’s creation however, she was not only to be the ‘savior,’ she was to be the new ruler of the world sitting on her throne of the Ziggurat.  Confused of what she really was, Tima is persuaded into her decision to take her position.
