We cherish our own uniqueness and seek to develop ourselves independently from the masses. To consider a situation where we might have to surrender this freedom is indeed a frightening experience. If we consider the United States’ fanatic war against communism in the mid 20th century, we begin to understand just how far our fears and paranoia can take us. Indeed, it does not take much to frighten us in this respect. |
