Like the original Metropolis, Osamu Tezuka’s updated and greatly altered animated version is told in the third person and the characters almost seem to sit back from narrative positions and let the images guide the story. This new version of the story is much more complex than the original film and this is also showcased in the increased detail which is given to the charcters and the imagery.
