Early films, created in the 1920's, such as Aelita and Just Imagine hardly consider the necessity for a protective suit against the environments of space. In fact, space and other planets are assumed to have exactly the same atmospheric and gravitational conditions as earth. This can be correlated to the lack of scientific understanding of space as well as the inherent limits of film technology during this time.
A space traveler may travel to another planet in their everyday clothes or perhaps wearing gear that was associated with the new technologies of the time, flight and diving. For instance in Just Imagine the astronauts wear what appears to be rubber coveralls and flight goggles. Their wear is more of a uniform than a protective system against the conditions of space as the castaway onboard does not wear any protective clothing and is quite fine during the voyage and subsequent exploration of mars. Both of these movies are only able to speculate on the environment of space.
