Renaissance 2054 is a great example of how all three previously discussed techniques can be combined into
an animated film. True emotion, a sense of humanity, and lack of emotion are all apparent at times throughout
the film. Since animation can only portray so much realism, the eyes are a great way to express human
emotions and lack there of.
To generate true emotion and a sense of humanity throughout the film, there is a constant focus on extremely
detailed animations of the eyes. While the rest of the scene or frame may lack detail and depth, the characters
eyes ALWAYS have supreme detail. It is this attention to detail that becomes the focal point of the frame and
allows for the viewer to connect on an individual and emotional level. Reflections are animated, as well as
dilation. All human emotions can be found throughout the film by simply focusing on the animation of the eyes.
The director, Volckman, makes sure to have a proper balance of attention to detail. If he were to realistically
animate ALL of the eyes found in every scene it would become overwhelming and the viewer would lose
whatever individual contact they may have had. By realistically animating only certain sets of eyes, Volckman
has been able to deliver a stunning sense of true emotion, while being able to pull it all away to create a lack of
emotion when necessary.
