Madness in Equilibrium is represented by inhumanity of the state of Libria. Dictatorship of Father in Equilibrium leads to the purging of human emotion. The abolition of sense offenders is facilitated through the use of Prozium, the tasks of the Clerics, and removing pleasure from the environment. Citizens are lead to believe in a system that will not allow WWIV to occur. Parallel to the societies created in classic film noir, Equilibrium occurs after a tragic event that scars history. With WWII imagery of Hitler, propaganda and assimilation, the audience questions the reality of the citizens of Libria in comparison to the events of WWII. |
