Orwell’s 1984 took us to the totalitarian monochromatic and mono-cognitive world of Big Brother. Since then, the notion of a subdued and zombie-like proletariat working and living under the watchful eye of a dubious authority figure has become quite well known. To many of us, personal freedom is paramount, it is an established principle from which all else is made possible (ie. living). That is why, when presented with a situation where thinking freely is a crime, we are forced to give up our most sacred of certainties and experience the dystopic truths of oppressive regimes. |
