CHARACTER .. blade runner Vangelis' use of synthesizers was perhaps an obvious choice for a futuristic movie. But that wasn't his focus. Since the emotions of Harrison Ford's character and the replicants were of utmost importance to the film's plot, and since they remain, for good reason, mostly outwardly stern-mannered, it becomes essential that the music express the characters' feelings, as their faces mostly lie. Vangelis, who had never received formal training in music, was a perfect fit for the job; "I have always felt that you should not borrow knowledge from others, because personal experience and development are of utmost significance." “Perfectly capturing the isolation and melancholy of Harrison Ford's Rick Deckard character, the Vangelis score is as much a part of the dystopian environment as the decaying buildings and every present rain of Blade Runner.” |
composer: Vangelis directed by Ridley Scott
