ANIMATION AND IT'S
IMPACT ON ARCHITECTURE
The theme of madness
doesn’t always extent from the characters into the architecture
of the sets and when it does it varies in intensity. Certain films
such as Dr.Caligari take madness to the extreme in their sets. This
is achieved through animation, and 2-dimensional scenes. The madness
of the character’s is reflected into the backdrop of the film.
In contrast on the opposite end of the scale you have such films
as ‘The Belly of an Architect’ where the madness is
secluded only to certain characters actions and none is relieved
in the architecture. In the ‘Belly of an Architect’
the architecture is far from mad and represents the high society
of Roman architecture contrasting the character’s slowly maddening
actions of his belief that he’s going to die.
