MADNESS, MAYHEM
AND DIGITAL MANIPULATION
The unique ability
of CGI to portray any angle and any perspective in each scene effectively
supports an underline theme for madness. This is most prevalent
in the film Paprika where the sets are so obscured that to successfully
represent it without animation would be extremely difficult. This
is because the film is a combination of a realistic world like our
own and a dream world but these two realms end up merging and crossing
over one another. Animation makes such things possible while the
new advances in CGI help make it more realistic and interesting.
There are certain aspects of CGI in Paprika such as the confetti
scene with the parade or a simple reflection in a rain puddle that
are subtle additions which the viewer wouldn’t necessarily
pick up as advanced CGI programming.
