Doubling has significance in the film because duality sometimes represents itself as a thematic device that conveys a particular feeling and interpretation. The only identical people in Sin City were Goldie and Wendy.
Goldie was a prostitute who never received any real screen time throughout the whole film. However, due to specific visual representation, her significance to Marv was expressed. Goldie was a thematic symbol for Marv’s desires and driving force for his rampage through Basin City. This aspect of Goldie is not immediately apparent to either Marv or the audience until her identical twin Wendy is introduced. Through the analysis of their superficial attributes, for example their names, their appearance and even their mannerisms; between Goldie and Wendy one is extraordinary and the other more average. The duality between the two heightens their differences and gives significance to differences.
