Fabrication - Fabricating the Trusses
The truss elements were prefabricated in the shop to the maximum size for shipping and handling on the site. Welded connections are preferenced to the shop where bolted connections can be done either in the shop or on the site. As the nature of the truss, even when it was to be exposed, was fairly technical, bolted connections were used throughout the truss.

Here we can see one of the major truss connection nodes being fabricated at the shop. The central part of the joint is welded and the connecting plates bolted in place at the shop. This will make the alignment and attachment of the connecting members easier for the ironworkers and crane operator on site. |
