Space, to the majority of the populace, can be seen as an exotic environment.  The sensations of being in a zero gravity environment are uncommon to most people.  Many opinions concerning these sensations are speculative, especially in periods where space travel was less common.  Observing a selection of films studied in class, one can reach a decent understanding of various interpretations of space.  With each film, interpretations of space, on a social level and as an environment, can be seen through the materiality of space construction. Subsequently, in the respective timeframes of each film, the knowledge of space as a subject can also be concluded. The types of materials used in the films can relate to materials being used in space construction today, as well.  The following will provide an overview of three different material varieties used in films to represent environments constructed in zero-gravity conditions. In addition, a summary authentic materials used in space construction today will be provided.
