Corridors

Equilibrium -

Equilibrium is a prime example of the utilization of corridors as processional elements that lead to a place of importance. In a world which forbids art and emotion, these corridors serve to keep people moving on the path that is set for them. The Tetragrammaton which acts as government, sees no need for people to stray from or even question their meaning in life, there should be no distractions. In this society, rules compensate for a lack of individual thinking, zero tolerance is shown to those who dare to commit a sense offense.

The story reaches a point of no return when lead character John Preston; a Cleric Grammaton, turns around, breaking procession and disturbing the flow of mindless sheep around him. This moment reveals him as a sense-offender to the masses. Unmasked as a person with emotions, John Preston takes up the gauntlet of the individual and champions freedom.

Corridor - a long hall. An extension of liminal space, this extended liminal space is used to heighten the experience of threshold. The consequence of this in film is a build up of tension. The corridor leads the viewer on a directed path to a destination unknown, but a destination none the less. This allows the viewers to create their own assumptions as to what that final conclusion might be, investing them deeper into their own manipulated realities.
