Director: Ridley Scott

Blade Runner is a science-fiction movie set in Los Angeles 2019.   The futuristic urban landscape of stark metal, artificial light and pouring rain sets the tone for this cyberpunk and neo-noir film.   Deckard is forced out of retirement for one last police case.   Four replicants, physically identical to humans, are loose in L.A and need to be “retired”.   Deckard is to hunt down and destroy the replicants before they could start any trouble.

Blade Runner is a sci-fi film that flopped at the box office.   It was already on its way to

becoming a cult film.   The film was more accepted overseas when it was first released. Since its release, there has been a directors' cut release and the critics have changed their minds about the film but this did not stop Blade Runner from attaining a cult status.

The production design was hailed for such a great future set.   Some critics say the sets were so good that it took away from the story.   The dystopic L.A of the future paired with the eerie story line turned off the mass audience.   And who could blame the crowds for not wanting to see “a bleak vision of the future that questions what it is to be human and why life is so precious.” (Davies, pg.32)
