Classic film noir protagonists are typically driven by their mysterious past and human weaknesses. The journey of the struggling hero or 'anti-hero' is ridden with obstacles, temptations, and the decision to make a choice. A detective protagonist would become embroiled in a complex case of corruption, violence and death leading to the uncovering of truth. In classic film noir, femme fatales opposed the protagonist. The femme fatales were manipulative, desperate and morally corrupt women. With the exception of Ilona Tasuiev, the young Avalon scientist, in Renaissance, the female characters in Dark Knight, Equilibrium, Renaissance and Alphaville embodied innocence, truth and good. |
