Tron in 1982 and The Last Starfighter in 1984 are two films that made heavy investments in computer generated imagery. But it wasn’t until 1993 that CGI revolutionized the film industry, with the release of Jurassic Park. The departure from stop motion animation of miniatures transitioned into fully CGI dinosaurs inserted seamlessly into the film. Forrest Gump, in the following year, used digital effects to insert Tom Hanks into historical footage as well as the removal of Gary Sinise’s legs.
