Computer-generated imagery or CGI for short is the application of computer graphics to media such as film and television. CGI applies computer graphics (commonly referred to as CG) to the area of visual effects in most media. This is has increasingly become the method of choice for producing visionary images in films and television in both quality and efficiency. The process of creating visual effects through computer graphics is highly controllable and realistic (by today’s standards) and is a cost-effective replacement for older techniques such as creating miniatures for effects shots, or elaborate set pieces. The lack of need for a physical presence such as set pieces and actors, as well as the ability to create imagery that is almost impossible physically, has allowed CGI to become dominant in the field of films and televisions as a viable solution.
