Eyes, symbolically or physically, have always been an important aspect of filmmaking. In the early silent films, there was great emphasis placed on detailing the characters eyes, so as to better capture the actor’s expressed emotion. The depiction of a character’s eyes may be used to illustrate good versus evil and the expressive nature of eyes as windows to the soul.
The eyes are also used symbolically to represent ever present all seeing figures of great power. Eyes have become all seeing and all knowing. Eyes are used to look beyond the regular boundaries of reality, giving one a glimpse deep into the soul of another.
