Setting the Stage
Using the Green Screen filming technique the directors and actors of a film are required to go back to basics of capturing a performance with the use of a bare stage. The director and the actors are both expected to use their own imagination throughout the filming of the movie. This creates a new form of filming which marriages the art of both film and theatre. However in viewing the final cut of the film the viewer is not required to use her/his own imagination to interpret the space but is able to view the film exactly as the director or visionary of the film had originally perceived it to be.
In theatre productions the actor is isolated from a realistic space or set, having nothing to work with, but their own skill, the performance of the other actors, and a few props. With the technological advancements in the green screen filming technique, and the lack of a live audience the actors are no longer required to perform with each other, but are able to be isolated in their own performance and in post production be placed meticulously in a scene with another actor. This technique can be demanding on the actor, but in the end allows the director to control all aspects of the performance, and setting of the film.
