In Renaissance, the protagonist is a down trodden rebel detective, Barthemlemy Karas. He is committed in bringing villains to justice as a result of his harsh violent criminal past. Karas rejects police authority and the fear of death to confront Avalon Corporation and to save a seemingly innocent civilian scientist, Ilona Tasuiev. The sister of Ilona Tasuiev, Bislane Tasuiev, becomes Karas' love interest and accomplice. In the end, Karas discovers the truth about Ilona and Avalon, and as a result, he murders Ilona for the greater good. He is confronted with the decision to stay true to his promise to save Ilona for Bislane or save humanity from immortality. Karas parallels the protagonists in classic film noir as a conflicted crime detective, his tragic past and his difficult journey to reveal truth. |
