The city of Paris is transformed in to the future city streets of Alphaville. Professor Von Braun's office, the venue of the executions, corridors of the examination rooms, and the hotels in Alphaville are sterile and clean. People, who were once free thinking individuals, such as the former spy Henry Dickson, become trapped and caught up in the city. The new modern and technological city is seen as an evil since it lacks emotion and the complexity of humanity. The escape from Alphaville is a dimly light unused highway leading to the Outlands. Alphaville exemplifies classic film noir settings with its 'rain-slicked mean streets, flashing neon lights, dimly lit apartments and the hotel rooms of big cites' that create a bleak backdrop of the disillusioned society. | |||
