Renaissance takes place in futuristic Paris of 2054. Layers of the old and new city create a complex maze which the characters immerse themselves in. The city adds to the feeling of chaos and madness in the narrative, characters, and audience. Renaissance is rife with classic film noir imagery, which is enabled by the animated conception of futuristic Paris with its layers, corridors, and technology. The city provides the setting where the lonely figure of Ilona walks through a dark alley to get to her car and the Claus' underground Metro hideaway. The city is filled with electronic signage of advocating Avalon is an interpretation of the neon advertising from classic film noir. The contrast of the old city and the new city governed by Avalon depicts the struggle of good and evil, where the new city is dominant. |
