Conceptual Design informed by climate and place
Topics
• Closed Heating
-passive solar
• Open Mode
-natural ventilation
-switch-rich envelope
• Closed Cooling (without A/C)
- solar control
- night cooling of thermal mass
Design/Performance Objective
To develop building form and organization aimed at heating, cooling and lighting exclusively by architectural means.
|
Investigative Strategy |
Informed by analysis and synthesis of climate, place and precedents, develop schemes through a sequence of studies where place, program and climate take turns as the central organizing theme; develop descriptive metaphors and graphic diagrams for circulation, spatial arrangement, and indoor-outdoor relationships of each approach.
|
Evaluation Process |
Illustrate design concept proposals (plan and section diagrams, 3-dimensional illustrations) for discussion and critique. |
