The Serres, Paris, France

The Serres in Paris, France, designed by Peter Rice Engineer, was the first building to use a cable support system to provide the structural stability and framework for large expanses of mullionless glazing.

Serres, La Villette

The framing system for the Serres became the basis for the design of all subsequent cable supported glazing systems. The increased transparency possible through the use of this specialized structural and stainless steel system permitted a significant change in the way that glass could be used in buildings.
